Soon I will begin composing a multi-media piece interpreting PETER HAMLIN’s (Bloomington, IN) exquisite nature photography that will be premiered, recorded, and performed in multiple venues/cities by the amazing percussion ensemble SQUARE PEG ROUND HOLE (Philadelphia, PA). The end result of our collaboration is slated to be a 40+ minute piece for percussion ensemble, electronics, and video of Peter’s photographs. This piece will receive multiple performances in multiple cities,a studio recording, and a video for Internet distribution, with a projected premiere date late 2019/early 2020. This project has the chance to reach a lot of people through live and recorded mediums, and the subject matter is a relatable, sublime meditation on nature.

I am seeking you, and/or anyone you know who might be interested, to collaborate on this exciting project. Commissioning art of this nature provides many benefits for the patron and helps to sustain artists such as myself through the creative process. Along the way, there will be certain other operational costs that will inevitably arise (i.e. recording studio time, equipment/software purchases, printing costs) that I may seek to cover via arts grants or crowd funding.

I have a non-profit Fiscal Sponsor in Copland House, a creative center for American music where I did a residency in 2015. As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, Copland House will be able to accept contributions that are specifically earmarked towards this project from patrons like you. Your donation will be fully tax-deductible, and you will receive written receipt and acknowledgment.

Currently I am trying to get multiple patrons to financially collaborate on this project. Suggested donations of $3,000-$4,000 from 7-10 patrons will add up to the targeted amount, although one is encouraged to collaborate with more or less. For those of you living in Indiana or Kentucky, this is a chance to cultivate local art and artists featuring our beautiful landscapes.

To summarize, the incentives to support the piece include:

  • a tax receipt enabling collaborators to deduct their share from their yearly income tax
  • hard copies of collaborator’s name featured in the score and program notes
  • private performances may be arranged for particularly large contributions (premiere could be in your town)
  • collaborator’s name on my website and in the video credits (which will be on YouTube and Vimeo). DVDs of the video can be burned and sent to patrons as well
  • if desired, press can be arranged to acknowledge collaboration

But beyond these benefits, the true gift you would be receiving would be as collaborator in our exciting process – a full partner in actively helping to bring a new work of art to life! Your support will be the means by which I will be able to create focused, distinct, art with breadth. I am truly thrilled by the opportunities that lie ahead and would love for you or anyone you might know to be a part of this project.

Commissions can be made via check or Copland House website. Click here (scroll to bottom of page) to collaborate with me!
